The famous Copper Triangle has long been considered one of Colorado’s classic alpine road rides.  Graced with breathtaking scenery, gorgeous roads and three challenging climbs, the Copper Triangle exemplifies cycling in the Colorado Rockies.  The 4th annual Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle Alpine Classic will take place on Saturday August 1st, 2009 as an impeccably supported ride.

Cyclist will start and finish at Burning Stones Plaza in central Copper Mountain Resort, Colorado.  Amply stocked aid/rest stations will be positioned throughout the course.  Upon returning from your ride, participants will be greeted by the “Alpine Celebration”. The post-ride party, with music, a first – class lunch, prize drawings and cycling expo will continue throughout the afternoon. 

REGISTRAION CONFIRMATION

Once you have registered for the ride, there are several ways to see if your registration was processed.  One way is to check your bank account to see if your check was cashed.  Also, if you registered online you should receive an email from active.com.  Finally, you can click here to see if your name is updated on our registration confirmation page.  We know how important it is to know if you are registered, but please be patient and if something does not look right, we will try to fix it.


REFUNDS

In true cycling tradition, the Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle will take place regardless of weather; therefore NO refunds will be provided.

5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Registration and packet pick-up
5:45 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Start times (all riders MUST start before 8 a.m.) Colorado State Patrol will not allow anyone to start prior to first light (5:45 am) without both front and back lights on your bike.
10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Alpine Celebration
3:00 p.m. - Tunes After the Triangle - TBA


JERSEY AND PACKET PICK UP

If you did not choose to have your packet mailed to you, you can pick up your packet at Kokopeli Trail in the Copper Conference Center at Copper Mountain at the following times:

Friday 7/31/2009  4 - 9 p.m.
Saturday 8/1/2009 5:30 a.m. - 8 a.m.

If you did mark the option to have your jersey and packet mailed, they will be mailed starting July 1st through July 17th – If you register on July 17th packets will be mailed a few days after so please be patient.


JERSEY FIT

If your Jersey does not fit, you can, Subject to availability, exchange it at the event at the merchandise booth.  Please note that availability will be limited and so we can’t guarantee that all sizes will be available.


RIDE START TIME

Please plan to start your ride between 5:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.  We encourage riders to begin early to avoid the traditional afternoon mountain thunderstorms and highway traffic. Colorado State Patrol will not allow anyone to start prior to first light (5:45 am) without both front and back lights on your bike.


BIKE NUMBERS AND WRIST BANDS

You must wear your event bike number and wrist bands at all times!!  Your bike number must be attached to the top tube of your bicycle.  The numbers are designed to stick to themselves and not to your bike.  The Colorado State Patrol has the authority to remove anyone without a bike number from the course.  Attendants will be monitoring all aid stations and you will need to show your wrist band in order to receive refreshments.  Your wrist band will also allow you to enter the post-ride Alpine Celebration and lunch.


POST-RIDE ALPINE CELEBRATION & Lunch

The Alpine Celebration and Barbecue is FREE to all Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle participants.  Your wrist band will act as your ticket for your lunch. 

Tickets to the lunch will also be available for friends and family at the Pavilion for an additional cost.


TUNES AFTER THE TRIANGLE

Rest your legs after a day in the saddle at the 4th Annual “Tunes After The Triangle,” presented by Copper Mountain. This outdoor Concert is FREE to all Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle participants. Its just another great excuse to stay for a night in the mountains.


PARKING

If you are staying at Copper Mountain, you will be given a parking pass when you check-in.  That pass will give you access to the underground parking.

For those of you who will be coming up for the day, there will be plenty of parking in the ski area parking lots.  The “A” lot is the largest parking area and is about 1/2 mile ride to the Pavilion and Start line.


REST - AID STATIONS

There will be five aid/rest stations on the course.  Each aid/rest station will be stocked with water, energy drink, energy bars/snacks, fruit, bagels, trail mix etc… Please note that not all items will be available at all aid/rest stations:

Aid 1 – Fremont Pass summit  Open 6:00am to 10:00am
Aid 2 – Tennessee Pass summit Open 6:30am to 11:30am
Aid 3 – West Vail (Stephens park)  Open 7:00am to 12:30pm
Aid 4 – Base of Vail Pass Open 8:00am to 2:00pm
Aid 5 – Vail Pass summit Open 8:30am to 3:00pm

Riders must wear wristbands (supplied with registration) to obtain food


SAG WAGONS

Sag wagons will rove the course with water and road assistance to help riders experiencing mechanical trouble or those who become too fatigued to finish. Please be prepared to handle your own flats and minor repairs.


PRIVATE SAGS

For the safety of all riders, private sag vehicles are NOT allowed on the course.


WEATHER

Expect temperatures to be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s at the start with normal daytime highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.  Mountain weather is highly variable, so be prepared for thunderstorms or even rain.


CAMPING

There is NO RV or car camping available at Copper Mountain Resort the weekend of the event.  However, there are several campsites near Frisco, and Lake Dillon, CO just a few miles down the road from the resort.
